What is Ultimate Frisbee?

Ultimate is a fast-paced, non-contact, self-refereed team sport played with a flying disc (frisbee). The goal is to score points by catching the disc in the opposing team's end zone.

It is played by two teams of seven players on a rectangular field with end zones at each end. Players advance the disc by passing it to teammates. The defending team can intercept the disc or force a turnover by causing the disc to touch the ground. The game emphasizes sportsmanship and fair play, with players responsible for their own calls and disputes resolved through discussion.

Spirit of the Game

Ultimate relies upon a Spirit of the Game that places the responsibility for fair play on every player. There are no referees; the players are solely responsible for following and enforcing the rules, even at World Championship. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.
